Maintenance

We will inspect your home air system for leaks, electrical faults, and many other problems twice a year–and free of charge–for all of our annual maintenance customers.

AC & Heating Maintenance programs do have value, most people just want to know what that value is.  The questions we get asked a lot as a company is, “How often do I need to have HVAC system maintenance?”. Great question. Your AC & Heating System runs and runs and runs through heat and cold, through rain and snow, through storms and hail. It faithfully works in the background and we normally don’t mess with it or think about it until when? Until it breaks, that’s right. Like a car your HVAC system needs to be checked out at least one time a year. This doesn’t mean that if you don’t do it will blow up the next day. Though Murphy’s Law might say different. You can only ignore your system for so long. Let’s look at the major items that need to be checked and why

  • Freon Levels (Refrigerant): Residential Air Conditioning & Heating Systems use a gas called Freon or Puron depending on your system age. The process of cooling your home can only be done effectively when these gas that’s in your system is at the proper level. Unlike a car, you don’t need to fill it up with the gas as you use it. It’s more like a tire, if it leaks you can’t run without it. And this is one of the most common problems in residential HVAC systems (AC & Heating). When you get a leak in the system, it will often times begin to slowly leak out. You will begin to feel a change in temperature, your electric bill rises as the system runs longer and you have to keep messing with the Thermostat. When left to slowly leak, the cost rises and rises as every pound of Refrigerant leaves the system. Most systems run off of Freon and this particular gas is no longer being used making it very, very expensive. This leak must be stopped so you are not just dumping money into the atmosphere.
  • Gas Valves & Lines: This is another important one. You don’t want the gas valve dumping excess gas into your attic or furnace closet. When gas is not correctly being burned off by the furnace burners it results in more Carbon Monoxide in the flue pipe. This is a huge danger to the health of your family if this Carbon Monoxide gets blown back down and into the living areas. Everyone knows this. Gas line seats also leak and need to be checked. Have your system checked out in the winter every winter season to make sure this is not happening to you. Carbon Monoxide is deadly and so on this one, we say any maintenance plan that involves coming out in the winter is a sure thing-Do it! • Motors & Blowers: The air we breathe is important. There have been times we come to a new customer’s home and upon inspection of their duct system find very dangerous bacteria and mold living in the duct system, furnaces and plenums. You don’t know what you don’t know. Let Texas Discount Air come take a look so that you at least know what your options are going forward.
